New beauty technology: first look at UV exposure tracker and custom cosmetics

A whole new generation of cosmetic solutions is coming, combining beauty and technology. Everything from mirrors with built-in artificial intelligence to wearable UV trackers. The man behind some of the most exciting new innovations was in Melbourne recently to show them off at L'Oréal’s Beauty For All event.

Tracking UV  exposure

L'Oréal has launched La Roche-Posay My Skin Track UV - the first battery-free wearable electronic to measure UV exposure.

“To have a wearable that's so unique, that's the first one that never needs to be charged, that's accurate that can be sold at Apple is a huge achievement," said Guive Balooch, the head of L’Oréal’s Tech Incubator. The way it works is pretty simple. When the sun hits the sensor, it records how much UV you have been exposed to through the day.

You can then scan the device using your phone to get the results.

“What's really cool is if you apply the sunscreen, it gives you a positive reinforcement so it will tell you how low you have gone to point one per cent if you actually apply the sunscreen." Balooch said.

Custom skincare

One of the most highly anticipated arrivals for 2020 is Custom Dose, a sleek machine that sits at your skincare salon and makes custom skincare formulations.

You go through a questionnaire on a tablet that gives you a smart recommendation. It then makes a customised corrective serum on the spot.

"At the end, you'll be able to get all of the actives that are tailor-made for your skin within one little bottle," Balooch said.



Hair Affair
Also on display at the event was a diagnostic camera that can zoom into the hair and scalp up to 600 times larger than usual.

Plus an in-salon digital mirror with facial recognition technology that it is capable of giving each client an instant face shape and eye colour analysis and will also match the client with celebrities who share the same features.
